A Houston fund manager who models Bitcoin as a network. He wrote “Metcalfe's Law as a Model for Bitcoin's Value”, and his X feed turns price history into odds: expected ranges, seasonal peaks, targets by date. This page checks those numbers against price.
In short. Timothy Peterson is a CFA and CAIA charterholder and the founder of Cane Island Alternative Advisors (about 33K followers on X). He is best known for the paper “Metcalfe's Law as a Model for Bitcoin's Value”, and he now sells The Bitcoin Investment Handbook and yearly outlook reports. On this page: five dated calls on Bitcoin and Ethereum from June to September 2026. One played out, two are still open, and two went against.
Peterson's own site says he founded Cane Island Alternative Advisors and was earlier CFO of a Houston-based financial firm, where he co-managed an option-hedged equity strategy. He wrote the book “Performance Measurement for Alternative Investments” (Risk Books, 2015), serves as Chapter Executive for the Houston CAIA chapter, and holds a Master of Science in Finance and a BA in Economics from the University of Colorado.
His best-known work is the paper “Metcalfe's Law as a Model for Bitcoin's Value”, which values Bitcoin from the size of its user network. The X bio reads “Bitcoin Pathfinder | Network Economist | CFA, CAIA” and names that paper and his newer book, The Bitcoin Investment Handbook.
Most posts are statistics: how Bitcoin behaved after similar drawdowns, in the same week of past years, or at the same distance from its 200-day average. The calls on this page are the posts that turn those statistics into a range, a target or a direction for BTC or ETH. Many of them end with a plug for BluRoo.ai, an analysis tool he is building.

History as probability. Peterson looks up what Bitcoin did in past episodes that resemble today — the same drawdown, the same calendar date, the same trend — and posts the odds, an expected range or a target. The ranges are wide and long-dated; the short-dated seasonal calls are where he has been most clearly wrong.
Leaning bullish on the long view. On 29 Sep 2026 he asked whether a big dip is coming, and said that if so, “it will probably be the last time to buy Bitcoin below $80,000.”
Five dated calls from Peterson's own posts on X, charted against real CoinGecko price. Each quote is copied from the post as published and was re-fetched live. Posts that only list historical statistics are not charted; we took the ones that name a range, a target or a direction for BTC or ETH.
“History says that today (Sept 19th) is the peak of the September rally”
The post added that Bitcoin “finished lower 90% of the time in the past six years.” BTC was $80,874. It did not close lower again: three days later it closed at $86,597 (+7.1%), and it is $83,099 now (+2.8%). Went against.

BTC was $61,480. The $59K floor was tested: BTC closed at $58,566 (−4.7%) on 1 Jul, just under it, then turned up. It reached $86,597 (+40.9%) on 22 Sep and is $83,099 now (+35.2%). The $118K target has until June 2027. Still open.
𝕏 Post“Even “bad” Bitcoin recoveries are 2x.” — @nsquaredvalue on X↗ x.com“The expected price range for January 2027 is $66k - $107k (middle 50% interquartile).”
BTC was $63,811, below the range. It fell further to $58,566 (−8.2%) on 1 Jul, then rose to $86,597 (+35.7%) on 22 Sep. It is $83,099 now (+30.2%), inside the $66K–$107K range. The call is for January 2027. Still open.
𝕏 Post“Bitcoin is down 50% in 250 days. What happens next?” — @nsquaredvalue on X↗ x.comOutcomes are our read of what each post said, measured against real CoinGecko daily closes — not Peterson's own scoring. Two of the calls run to January 2027 or June 2027, so they stay open until then. The “$1,000 in” line under each chart is a buy-and-hold figure from the day of the call, even for the two bearish calls, where the buy-and-hold figure went up.
Peterson runs an advisory firm and sells his research directly. His X posts regularly advertise the book, the yearly outlook reports and his analysis tool.
A 976-page book sold through cane-island.digital as signed, numbered copies; the site says it “will list on Amazon for $275” and pays buyers “$20 in Bitcoin” for each referral.
Yearly outlooks (“Bitcoin 2027”, “Bitcoin 2026”) and the study “Determinants of Bitcoin's Performance”, sold singly or as a bundle — “three powerful Bitcoin research resources in one bundle for $279” — with a subscription to Cane Island's research platform.
Many of the charted posts end with “bluroo ai”, an analysis tool he is building; on 23 Sep 2026 he wrote he is going to make it “the most amazing analysis tool without equal or exception.”
The firm he founded; the site describes its work as insights and education for financial advisors and investment managers.

Of five dated BTC and ETH calls from June to September 2026: one played out (higher in 30 days from 24 Aug), two are still open (the January 2027 range and the $118K target), and two went against (ETH to $1,400 and the 19 Sep “peak”). Treat it as a documented opinion, not advice.
