A veteran global-macro money manager who now runs 50T Funds, a growth-equity firm investing only in crypto companies. On X, Tapiero posts short, punchy macro notes — Fed, yen, yields — that often end in a Bitcoin or Ethereum level. Those levels are what this page checks.
In short. Dan Tapiero founded 50T Funds in 2021; the firm says it manages $1.4Bn in private digital-asset companies. Before crypto, a CoinDesk speaker bio lists macro roles at Tiger Management, Duquesne, Steinhardt and SAC Capital, and the founding of DTAP Capital and Gold Bullion International. On X (about 138K followers) the calls are conditional and level-based: “break of X heads to Y.” On this page: five dated Bitcoin and Ethereum calls from March to September 2026. The late-August “Big Low is in” call has held so far; a May post calling $160K “only a double” was followed by a 28.6% fall.
By the CoinDesk Consensus 2025 speaker bio, Tapiero was “a macro-focused investor at firms including Duquesne Capital Management, SAC Capital Advisors, Tiger Management and Steinhardt Management Co.”, and founded DTAP Capital, Gold Bullion International and the Agricultural Company of America (AGCoA). The same bio lists board seats at Ledger, Ledn, Zenrock Labs and Quicknode. The X bio sums it up as “Macro PM-20yrs” and “Btc+Bullion hodler.”
50T Funds — the brand for 50T Holdings and 10T Holdings, both SEC-registered advisers — was “founded in 2021 by Dan Tapiero” and invests in growth-stage crypto companies. The firm's site gives $1.4Bn under management, five fund vintages and 22 portfolio companies (50tfunds.com, 29 Sep 2026). Tapiero's X feed regularly promotes the “DAE” (digital asset ecosystem) theme and 50T's portfolio companies.
The macro calls are not always right, and Tapiero says so. On 3 Sep 2026 Tapiero posted “Almost zero chance Fed hikes in Sept.”; after the Fed hiked, the 16 Sep post read: “Was wrong on Fed pause call.” That miss is not charted (it is not a price call), but it is part of the record. Tapiero has not publicly stated pronouns, so this page uses they/them.

Top-down macro, then a level. Tapiero starts from rates, the Fed, the dollar and the yen, then states a conditional Bitcoin or Ethereum trigger: “break of 2250 heads back to 3300”, “85k break gets us to 100k pronto.” That format makes the calls checkable, but the targets are big and the timing words (“pronto”, “right back”) are optimistic. The posts are also openly long: Tapiero owns Bitcoin, runs a crypto fund, and says so.
Strongly bullish. Since late August the posts say the low is in and a new bull phase has begun, with $100K and then $120K as the next Bitcoin levels.
Five dated calls from Tapiero's own posts on X, charted against real CoinGecko price. Each quote is copied from the post as published and was re-fetched live. Most of the posts are macro commentary with no level; we charted the ones that name a Bitcoin or Ethereum price or a clear direction.
“Solid break of 100k goes right back to 120k. Could even be this year.”
A conditional call with BTC at $81,169, after what Tapiero called a textbook cup-and-handle breakout. The next day Bitcoin closed at $86,597 (+6.7%), its high since; it is $83,145 now (+2.4%). The $100K trigger has not come, so neither has the $120K test. Open.
𝕏 Post“Pretty straightforward for BTC. Textbook cup and handle breakup.” — @DTAPCAP on X↗ x.com“US short rates lower support btc break up. 85k break gets us to 100k pronto.”
BTC was $77,297. It dipped to $75,590 (−2.2%) on 16 Sep, then closed above $85K on 22 Sep at $86,597 (+12.0%). The “pronto” part did not follow: Bitcoin slipped back and is $83,145 now (+7.6%), with $100K not reached. The macro premise in the same post — no September Fed hike — was wrong, as Tapiero later said. Open.
𝕏 Post“Getting ready to rock n' roll.” — @DTAPCAP on X↗ x.com“Pointless to call day to day. Big Low is in.”
After Bitcoin broke above its 50-, 100- and 200-day averages in a few days, Tapiero called the low. BTC was $77,712. The summer low of $58,566 (1 Jul) has not been revisited; the lowest close since the post is $75,590 (−2.7%). BTC peaked at $86,597 (+11.4%) on 22 Sep and is $83,145 now (+7.0%). The same post said the “greatest amount of pain” was a move back to $100K immediately — that part has not happened. Played out so far.
𝕏 Post“Extremely momentous break up in btc and complex.” — @DTAPCAP on X↗ x.com“Trump knows voters will determine the elections in November. BTC 160k is only a double.”
The miss. Tapiero tied a $160K Bitcoin to the November US elections with BTC at $82,018 — its high for the next four months. It fell to $58,566 on 1 Jul (−28.6%). It went above the call level only in late September, peaking at $86,597 (+5.6%), and is $83,145 now (+1.4%) — a long way from $160K. Went against.
𝕏 Post“Voters own bitcoin, eth, sol, alts, crypto.” — @DTAPCAP on X↗ x.com“And eth holding well. Along with btc feels sold out..ie we've been going down for almost 7 months. Break of 2250 heads back to 3300.”
ETH was $1,939. The trigger came quickly — a close of $2,344 on 17 Mar — but the $3,300 target did not follow. ETH fell to $1,566 (−19.3%) on 26 Jun before recovering to $2,775 (+43.1%) on 22 Sep. It is $2,666 now (+37.5%). Buying the call paid, but the break-to-$3,300 path failed once and the target is still unmet. Open.
𝕏 Post“Just an ol guy watching price action.” — @DTAPCAP on X↗ x.comOutcomes are our read of what each post said, measured against real CoinGecko price — not Tapiero's own scoring. The “$1,000 in” line under each chart is a buy-and-hold figure from the day of the call. Conditional calls (“break of X gets to Y”) stay open while the target has not been reached and the trigger has not clearly failed.

In September 2026 Tapiero posted that an 85K break gets Bitcoin to 100K “pronto”, and that a solid break of 100K “goes right back to 120k. Could even be this year.” Both are still open on this page.
Of five dated Bitcoin and Ethereum calls from March to September 2026: one played out (the 24 Aug “Big Low is in”), three are still open, and one — a May post calling $160K “only a double” — was followed by a 28.6% fall. Tapiero also publicly admitted being wrong on a September Fed call. Treat it as a documented opinion, not advice.
