Cheeky Crypto: XRP outperformed S&P 500 on 64% of entry dates since 2018
Cheeky Crypto claims that XRP has outperformed the S&P 500 index fund on 64 percent of possible start dates since 2018, though the outcome largely depends on timing.
To illustrate, the analyst points out that an investment of $1,000 in XRP at the beginning of 2020 would have been worth around $6,700 by October 30, 2023; the equivalent investment in the S&P 500 would have yielded only $2,500. However, if the same amount had been invested in XRP in January 2018, the return would be just $575, compared to about $3,200 for the index fund.
Cheeky Crypto says that timing is everything. Investors can expect long periods of underperformance if they bought XRP at its peak, and those who sold during the SEC’s December 2020 lawsuit would have taken significant losses. The analyst advises investors to spread their risk by diversifying across exchanges and outlines three scenarios for XRP as we approach 2027, one of which is a repeat of what happened in 2024. Despite its strong periods, the S&P 500 remains the more stable option, with dividends as an added benefit.
Cheeky Crypto: XRP must hit $4.41 to surpass Ethereum’s market cap
XRP must deliver a strong performance to reach $4.41 before it can overtake Ethereum on the market capitalization charts, says the host of Cheeky Crypto. That is a level not seen since February 2019.
The show’s analyst puts it in perspective: XRP has spent a total of 282 days ahead of Ethereum in market cap, the most recent being February 9, 2019. It would require a tripling of its current price for XRP to do so again.
As for what might prompt this, the host cites a Twitter post from John Lylek of TRIA, which highlights payment activity on the XRP ledger as a potential driver. Yet the analyst is quick to note that when XRP did surpass Ethereum in 2018, holders did not benefit much in terms of gains.
Cheeky Crypto has three possible outcomes in mind for XRP by the end of 2027: an outright overtaking of Ethereum, a return to 2025 levels, or simply maintaining the current ratio to Ethereum. The analyst advises investors to keep a close watch on the price of Ethereum and the XRP/ETH ratio to gauge how things might unfold.
