The first phase of the Boscoin solar farm is now complete, marking a milestone in the move towards more sustainable Bitcoin mining. The project has installed over 300 panels and will generate considerable passive income through electricity sales and renewable energy credits.
Project Overview: Boscoin Solar Farm Phase One
Boscoin has completed the initial phase of its solar farm, installing around 300 high-capacity panels to support its Bitcoin mining in an economical and sustainable way. The VoskCoin channel reports the facility should be producing about a megawatt hour of power each day, enough for intensive mining and a step forward for cleaner energy in the crypto space.
Regarding racking, Boscoin chose the Integra system from the U.S., an aircraft-grade aluminum product that costs about $150 per panel. This investment in durability and long-term efficiency adds to the upfront cost but was considered necessary.
Technical Innovations and Key Partnerships
There were technical challenges early on. To extend the system’s life and improve performance, the team decided to replace coated Chinese steel with concrete-mounted aluminum racks. VoskCoin notes this has paid off in bifacial gains; the reflectivity of the concrete means the panels are producing 10-25% more solar energy each year.
For equipment, the company partnered with Altair, a U.S. supplier of Bitcoin mining gear, and specified Solus 16 kW inverters for optimal backfeed. Pantasolus inverters were installed to replace the Growatt units after issues with the latter’s app and poor support became too problematic.
Maximizing Revenue: Renewable Energy Credits and ROI
Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) are also very profitable in Virginia and, along with power sales, are a major income stream for Boscoin, according to VoskCoin. The farm’s output is intended to generate a return on the Bitcoin miners well above what could be earned by simply selling electricity back to the grid.
Sourcing and logistics have been another lesson for Boscoin. The team found value in ordering DDP from China through Alibaba to avoid delays and costs, an approach that should lead to smoother operations and greater profitability in any future expansion of the solar farm.
