With the first phase of the Vosk Solar Farm complete, 10 Bitcoin miners are now running on renewable energy. The next phase will add a further 300 solar panels, a significant part of Vosk’s drive to create a self-sustaining crypto mining operation.
Harnessing Solar Power for Bitcoin Mining
The initial stage of the farm produces over a megawatt-hour per day, more than enough for the ten miners and their support needs. In the words of the VoskCoin channel host, it is a way to reduce long-term costs for crypto mining and be less dependent on conventional power. For the actual mining, Vosk has turned to Altair, an authorized dealer of Canaan Avalon and WhatsMiner equipment, to supply gear that is both reliable and efficient.
Overcoming Technical and Logistical Challenges
There have been hurdles in putting the solar farm together. Growatt’s customer service left something to be desired when faulty inverters became an issue, but with some help from Signature Solar, Vosk was able to make the necessary replacements and stay on course. A Solis inverter presented its own set of problems; the output was too high for some of the panels and they would not function until the issue was resolved.
Vosk has made provisions for the future by using shipping containers to store the equipment and panels securely, a move that also keeps delivery costs in check. A metal building is also in the works for tools and spare parts to create a better organized space and avoid any losses.
Ambitious Plans for Phase Two and Beyond
Phase two will involve concrete work and cabling in addition to the 300 new panels. But Vosk also plans to use the abundant solar power for other things like 3D printing, making the most of the infrastructure he has put in place. He would call the project so far a good learning experience, if nothing else, and a considerable challenge. Such investments are vital to the longevity of mining here, he says. With the current work nearly done, Vosk is taking time to thank his audience for their support and will take a short break before starting the next phase.
