With the Democrats taking control of both the House and Senate in Congress, the way is paved for possible alterations to cryptocurrency regulation. Altcoin Buzz has put a few altcoins in the spotlight that stand to gain from the change in politics: Canton, Monero, Zcash, and ThorChain.
Canton Gains Regulatory Breathing Room
The new Democratic majority in Congress may well determine how projects like Canton are regulated. The blockchain project, which has strong links to big business, was recently handed a no-action letter by the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance; provided some conditions are met, it can be considered a digital commodity and is spared some regulatory pressure. Yet for all its active network and business connections, Canton’s market cap is running at about $3.8 billion, some 50 percent off where it was in February.
Canton has also put in place a universal burn plan with the assent of its super validators. Should there be an uptick in activity on the network, more tokens will be burned, says Altcoin Buzz, which would help strengthen the relationship between value and use. All told, the innovation in its tokenomics and a measure of regulatory clarity make it well placed to take advantage of what the Democrats’ congressional win might bring.
Monero and Zcash: Privacy Coins in the Spotlight
Monero and Zcash are among the privacy coins to have come under the microscope since the Democrats’ victory in Congress. Monero, with its built-in financial privacy, has posted a 75% rise over the past quarter to a market cap in excess of $12 billion. An FCMP++ upgrade is in the works that will widen anonymity on eligible outputs, something Altcoin Buzz thinks will appeal to those wanting to keep their affairs confidential.
Then there is Zcash, offering the option of private or public transactions. It has been in good form in 2026, with the market cap topping $21 billion and institutional interest deepening as evidenced by the Grayscale Zcash ETF’s asset base of more than a billion dollars. A NU7 upgrade due on or about November 5 will cut block times to 25 seconds from 75, tripling the speed of transactions. With talk of regulation picking up, one can expect both Zcash and Monero to benefit from the renewed emphasis on user privacy.
ThorChain Faces Challenges Amid Cross-Chain Risks
ThorChain makes the Altcoin Buzz list less for any recent gains and more for showing resilience. The cross-chain swapper had to deal with a refund bug, putting safety checks on hold and exposing the risks in this kind of trading. Its RUNE token is at 62.5 cents, with a market cap just short of $206 million.
Altcoin Buzz suggests that the recent events are a reminder of the perils of cross-chain platforms, however innovative the tech. The Democrats may yet impose order on DeFi, but in the meantime the market is watching ThorChain to see how it restores confidence and addresses safety concerns.
