The fall in Starknet TVL is now under a microscope following the departure of some big names and an accompanying precipitous drop in total value locked. CryptoFateev Ripple XRP Trader sees it as cause to question the platform’s security and what lies ahead for it.
Major Players Leave Starknet, TVL Plummets
USDC and Circle have left the Starknet ecosystem, a blow that has seen the TVL drop from $320 million to just $40 million. The host of CryptoFateev Ripple XRP Trader points to this exodus of liquidity providers as the source of unease over the project’s stability. In the wake of such departures, the community has pressed Starknet’s team for an explanation, not without reason to be concerned about whether the protocol can maintain the confidence of institutions.
Revenue, Activity, and Cycles: Mixed Signals
Revenue figures tell a different story for the moment. Starknet is 13th in that regard with $230,000 to NEAR’s $144,000, despite NEAR having the larger TVL. But as CryptoFateev sees it, the situation is more complicated; while the revenue is competitive, one only has to look at the 80,000 transactions in the past day to see user activity declining. Such a lack of engagement indicates waning utility and interest and will do the ecosystem no good if not addressed.
There are signs of increased staking, over 240 million tokens to be exact, which CryptoFateev attributes to early investors relocking what they had set aside. Then there is the matter of Starknet’s history of posting 500% revenue growth in the last quarter of the year; traders are not so sure the same can be expected in the current climate.
Token Price Pressures and Security Context
At 3.8 cents, the token is nowhere near its previous value of 10 cents. A strong upturn in sentiment and activity is needed for any real recovery, says CryptoFateev. Should development stall and the protocol lose its value, expect to see TVL and price decline further. As for security, quantum-resistant transaction costs have come down to 2.3 cents, well below recent times but not as low as they have been. Given Vitalik Buterin’s forecast of quantum computers posing a threat to existing crypto, CryptoFateev thinks Starknet’s move in that direction may well be what secures its future.
