In a new campaign, Stand With Crypto has thrown its support behind 45 Congressional candidates. The advocacy group is at the forefront of an effort to put crypto investors’ influence on the political map in the U.S. and see more lawmakers come out in favor of digital assets.

“We want to make Congress more receptive to blockchain and have a greater number of lawmakers who are proponents of cryptocurrencies,” says Mason Lannag, executive director of Stand With Crypto. In his view, what the political environment calls for now is some new legislators with a technological background who can appreciate both the potential and the challenges of digital assets. The group believes that more pro-crypto voices in Congress will pave the way for innovation and regulatory clarity in this country.

To that end, Stand With Crypto has just wrapped up a 12-day operation in support of 45 Congressional hopefuls, focusing on states such as California, Oregon, and Nevada. The candidates they have chosen to back are those who have been open to cryptocurrency and blockchain. It is a way for the group to show that the crypto community is a voting bloc that matters.

Bitcoin Magazine has presented analysis suggesting that in the run-up to elections, crypto investors may well be the deciding factor in swing states like Nevada. For example, Democrat Steven Horsford has been vocal in his support of crypto-friendly policies in Nevada. And when one considers the roughly $200 million crypto groups have put into this cycle, it is investor turnout that will determine whether their candidates prevail and how national policy is shaped.

Then there is the case of Senator Cynthia Lummis. As one of the most visible champions of crypto in the Senate, her exit is significant. Bernie Moreno, who is also known for advocating for blockchain, is likely to take over her seat. Such a change of guard is indicative of how attitudes in Congress are evolving towards digital assets as the crypto community works to ensure that key positions are held by supporters of the technology.
