Goddard is not one to mince words. \u201cThe fact is 99 percent of the use cases for tokenization on offer today are no better, faster, or cheaper than what you would find in traditional finance,\u201d he told Cointelegraph. That is a large part of the explanation for the market\u2019s tepid response. Projects may tout their innovations, but unless they offer something of substance over the status quo, there is no reason for a user or business to make the change. In Goddard\u2019s view, the industry has to put efficiency and similar priorities first before tokenization can be considered the linchpin of blockchain.<\/p>\n
Cardano is nevertheless working to expand the possibilities. A prime innovation is the integration of digital identity into tokens; legal entity identifiers, which in conventional finance are kept off-chain, can now be managed on-chain in a secure manner. Such an advance goes some way toward closing the divide with regulated markets and should appeal to institutions. Then there is the matter of Fireblocks. Through a partnership with them, Cardano has made it possible for all kinds of tokenized assets to be put on the Fireblocks platform automatically, with no additional coding required. It is a boon for enterprises wanting to get on board with blockchain.<\/p>\n
To put it in perspective, Goddard pointed to the complete tokenization of 850,000 shares of a Swiss private firm. Each of those tokens carries the rights of an equity share, proof that tokenization can have governance and legal weight rather than being a mere technical exercise.<\/p>\n
One finds Cardano being put to work outside of finance as well. The police in India rely on it to safeguard sensitive crime data for their investigations and legal work. More than 50,000 farmers in the country are using technology from low-orbit satellites to bring trust and transparency to local social systems and protect their livelihoods and education.
