A spate of high-profile departures has deprived the White House Crypto Council and other regulatory bodies of seasoned leadership. Patrick Witt was among them; his time as Executive Director of the council came to an end and he has moved on. Then in March 2026, David Sacks, the crypto and AI advisor, vacated his position upon the conclusion of his 130-day special government stint. The council was left lacking direction when Harry Jung, its Deputy Director, submitted his resignation in July of that year.<\/p>\n

There is some scrutiny of Bo Hines since his days as a White House crypto advisor. Once out of the administration, he took up an advisory role with Tether and lobbied for what suited the company in the Genius Act. None of it is illegal, but it invites questions of conflict of interest, given his association with Nexum, a consulting firm that has been paid $6.3 million by Tether.<\/p>\n
Then there is the matter of controversies that can erode confidence in the legislative process and provide the industry\u2019s detractors with ammunition, whether the conflict of interest is real or perceived, as was discussed on CryptoWendyO.<\/p>\n
For their part, the CFTC and SEC are at work laying down rules for cryptocurrencies. But should the anti-crypto faction come to dominate Congress in the wake of the elections, that work could be undone. It is a threat to what has been achieved to date. In the face of headwinds at the agencies and the exodus of key supporters, the outcome of the elections will determine if progress is to be halted or reversed.<\/p>\n
