Speaking to CoinDesk, Michael Pasolacca of the CFTC chair\u2019s senior advisory staff made it clear that exchanges will be inclined to take up the opportunity to be regulated by a single federal agency. For the crypto sector, he sees the prospect of not having to deal with state-level red tape as a catalyst for growth and innovation.<\/p>\n
As for the proposal, the CFTC is seeking public comment to finalize the rules with input from the broader community and industry stakeholders. It is all part of an effort to establish a sound regulatory foundation suited to the needs of the market.<\/p>\n
The CFTC is signaling a regulatory agenda that goes well beyond leveraged retail crypto trading. In recognition of how quickly the digital asset sphere has adopted technologies such as artificial intelligence, the agency intends to establish frameworks for on-chain financial systems and AI as well.<\/p>\n
A forum will be held by the CFTC on agent-based finance and AI to assist with this; among the topics to be discussed are issues of legal liability and accountability, in line with the agency\u2019s proactive approach to the risks and opportunities involved. And as for advancing crypto regulation, CFTC chair Mike Selig has made clear the agency is prepared to do so, especially after the recent passage of the Clarity Act.<\/p>\n
