Departing from the norm, RealFi\u2019s USDR stablecoin is in the news for being underwritten by real-world assets instead of government bonds. The new token was introduced by John O\u2019Connor of RealFi with the promise that holders can earn yield from their stablecoins.<\/p>\n
USDR does not use the same collateral as typical stablecoins backed by US Treasury bonds; instead, it is supported by a mix of real-world assets, both fixed-income and otherwise. O\u2019Connor says the intent is to give USDR a more diversified and solid foundation in an already crowded market. This reliance on real-world assets is meant to create a stablecoin with greater resilience and less dependence on any single asset.<\/p>\n
Institutional users are currently seeking more sophisticated ways to put their dollar-denominated assets to work. RealFi has made USDR an appealing proposition for them, offering yield without sacrificing stablecoin infrastructure, through portfolios that extend beyond government securities.<\/p>\n
At the heart of the USDR stablecoin is a simple concept: put idle balances to work and generate yield for the user. RealFi has outlined a plan to make this happen, targeting the institutional side of the market. These clients may have large sums in stablecoins on hand yet few avenues for yield, as noted by CoinDesk. For a corporate treasurer or fund manager in traditional finance, the ability to earn returns from a stablecoin itself is highly attractive.<\/p>\n
There is also the matter of making things straightforward for the user; RealFi aims to do this in line with Web 2.0 conventions. By offering an interface that is easy to use and consistent with what institutions are accustomed to in legacy systems, the company hopes to remove some of the barriers to entry and encourage faster adoption across the industry.<\/p>\n
At RealFi, transparency is of paramount importance. To that end, the team has committed to keeping users informed about who the fund administrators and auditors are and to providing regular updates on the asset portfolios that underpin the USDR stablecoin. CoinDesk says such measures are meant to build confidence among both retail and institutional users, and address the concerns that have affected the stablecoin industry following some high-profile incidents.<\/p>\n
Regarding the project\u2019s roadmap, a testnet will be launched in July 2023 for early adopters to test the system and provide feedback. The plan is for USDR\u2019s official market debut with the mainnet in August 2024. This phased introduction is intended to foster community involvement and ensure adequate testing and transparency before any large-scale use.<\/p>\n
