The Democrats still have little to say about cryptocurrencies, which could be either a good or bad sign for Bitcoin voters.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Democratic National Committee published its 2024 Party Platform on Sunday \u2013 a document detailing the Democrats\u2019 future political priorities heading into the next election.<\/p>\n

Unlike their Republican counterparts, the Democrats\u2019 platform made no mention of the words Bitcoin, crypto, or blockchain.<\/p>\n

Democrats Still Quiet On Crypto<\/h2>\n

The ninety-two-page document touched on popular issues among Democrat voters including lowering housing costs and tackling climate change.<\/p>\n

It also prioritized making the wealthy and corporations \u201cpay their fair share\u201d \u2013 ending the preferential treatment of capital gains by making investment income tax the same rate as wage income. That would hurt the pockets of all investors, including Bitcoin holders \u2013 a group Biden\u2019s administration has greatly disappointed already.<\/p>\n

Notably, the DNC platform was written and passed by its committee before Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 Presidential race, and includes lengthy praise for his administration\u2019s ongoing work.<\/p>\n

Yet that also means that the platform may tell us little about how the Democratic Party handles crypto under a Harris administration, as many suspect the current Vice President to have a lighter touch on the industry than Biden has.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s expected to pass as written,\u201d said Fox Business journalist Elanor Terret on Monday. \u201cUnclear whether any new additions will be made that reflect Harris\u2019s positions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Is This A \u2018Pivot\u2019?<\/h2>\n

Cinneamhain Ventures partner Adam Cochran is one such person, believing the platforms\u2019 absolute silence on crypto is a quiet signal of the party\u2019s crypto \u2018pivot\u2019 under Harris.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor years we\u2019ve had anti-crypto rhetoric, Warren shouting for an \u201canti-crypto army\u201d and Treasury, OFAC and the Fed going chokepoint claiming crypto is about money laundering,\u201d Cochrane wrote to Twitter on Monday. \u201cCrypto doesn\u2019t need government handouts to succeed. It needs a non-hostile environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

By contrast, the Republican Party\u2019s platform published in July explicitly promised to end Biden and the Democratic Party\u2019s anti-crypto crackdown. It also promised to oppose the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), and to protect American\u2019s rights to hold and mine Bitcoin in self-custody.<\/p>\n

Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump also appeared at the 2024 Bitcoin Conference with promises to establish a national \u201cstrategic Bitcoin stockpile\u201d, and to fire the crypto-hostile SEC chairman Gary Gensler. His loud support has garnered him ample vocal and financial backing from crypto leaders including Kraken co-founder Jesse Powell, and the Winklevoss twins.<\/p>\n
