{"id":20603,"date":"2024-07-10T07:59:56","date_gmt":"2024-07-10T07:59:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buycrypt.com\/blog\/?p=20603"},"modified":"2026-07-14T15:51:31","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T15:51:31","slug":"interesting-turn-of-events-popular-scammers-lose-30k-to-a-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buycrypt.com\/blog\/en\/interesting-turn-of-events-popular-scammers-lose-30k-to-a-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Interesting Turn of Events: Popular Scammers Lose $30K to a Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>The notorious scammer experienced a karmic twist when it fell victim to its own trick.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Infamous scam-as-a-service kingpin \u2018Pink Drainer\u2019 appears to have found itself on the receiving end of the very type of scheme it once peddled.<\/p>\n<p>According to an update shared by MisTrack, a crypto compliance platform, the notorious wallet-draining group lost about $30,000 worth of Ethereum due to an \u201caddress poisoning\u201d scam on July 7.<\/p>\n<p>With this type of fraud, the scammer targets pairs of addresses that frequently interact with each other and \u201cpoisons\u201d the transaction history of one of them by sending to it a small amount of crypto from an address that is subtly different but bears close resemblance to the victim\u2019s usual contact.<\/p>\n<p>The victims then unwittingly transfer funds to the familiar address by copying the \u201cpoisoned\u201d string of characters and end up misplacing the funds for the criminals\u2019 benefit.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, this method mirrors the very tactics Pink Drainer was known for employing against others.<\/p>\n<p>MisTrack\u2019s tweet read,<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cScamming the scammer. It seems like an address associated with the Pink Drainer fell victim to the address poisoning scam. Can\u2019t say we feel bad for them tho.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The latest development comes almost two months after Pink Drainer announced that it was shutting down its nefarious infrastructure.
