The crypto community has been left in no doubt of SUI’s mettle after a 40 million TPS demonstration put on by the blockchain, an exercise that not only made light of present-day demand but also underlined what SUI aspires to in agentic finance.
SUI Blockchain Surpasses Industry Benchmarks
Lark Davis would have one see it as a technical milestone. The 40 million transactions per second (TPS) is well beyond what the platform is currently using, around 10 million a day. In making SUI one of the industry’s more scalable blockchains, it does leave market participants with a few questions to consider. Although this capacity is not needed at the moment, Davis says it paves the way for what lies ahead when decentralized applications and the like come of age.
Security, Ecosystem Growth, and Quantum Resistance
Then there is the matter of Move, the programming language of choice for SUI; its design offers a higher order of security than one finds in older blockchain languages. That makes for a proposition developers in DeFi or gaming find hard to resist, in Davis’s view. SUI is also getting ahead of quantum resistance with NIST post-quantum signatures. With native account testnets up and running and a mainnet upgrade scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, the long-term thinking is evident.
Privacy, Gasless Payments, and Token Dynamics
Confidence in the technology is borne out by the partnerships SUI has forged with Samsung Wallet and Alibaba, to name two, and an ecosystem TVL in the region of $500m. Lark Davis also singles out the zero-knowledge encryption for confidential transfers as a draw for those who value privacy, be they users or developers. And with the introduction of gasless payments, an application developer can cover a user’s transaction fees. This may have an effect on token economics by lessening the direct need for the SUI token.
To date, 2 million tokens have been burned by SUI. A small number, but Davis concedes that with network activity on the rise, such burns will add up.
Market Outlook: Caution Amid Growth
Yet for all the technical prowess and the growth of the ecosystem, Davis is inclined to regard SUI as a tactical holding. He is wary of the 59% of the token supply in the hands of the ecosystem committee, which he sees as an invitation for steady sell-offs in the four years to come and a source of downward pressure on price. His take is that investors would do well to keep an eye on the token distribution and how the market is shaping up, even if the 40 million TPS display was a landmark in scalability.
