Samsung Integrates Stablecoins on 82 Million Galaxy Devices

With the integration of stablecoins on 82 million of its Galaxy devices, Samsung is putting USDC and the means to move money around the world in front of millions of U.S. users. The company’s decision to add stablecoin support to Samsung Wallet is a way of driving crypto further into the mainstream.

Samsung Wallet Adds USDC Support for Millions

In an announcement made in the final week of the month, Samsung said it will be adding USDC stablecoin transfers to Samsung Wallet on the SWE and Solana blockchains. Some 82 million Galaxy devices in the United States are now able to use this for instant, hassle-free digital dollar transfers. A user can have USDC sent anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds at no cost from Samsung, or deposit money straight into a bank account in one of 60-plus countries. It is a milestone for a mobile device maker of Samsung’s size to offer such functionality to its customers.

Solana’s Growing Role in Stablecoin Payments

Nick Dukoff, General Manager of Institutional at the Solana Foundation, called the arrangement with Samsung yet another big step in the mainstreaming of Solana. In a piece on CoinDesk, Dukoff said the rollout is a testament to Solana’s ability to handle large transaction volumes; the end user gets the scalability and speed of the blockchain without having to think about the technology behind it. Solana is already the top blockchain in the world for stablecoin transfer volume, with more than $15 billion in circulation.

New Investment Opportunities: Nuva’s Home Token

There has been other activity in the digital asset sphere as well. Nuva, an Animoca Brands platform, has introduced Home, a new token. For as little as $1 in USDC and with no lockup, one can get a fixed 7 percent annual yield on home equity loans from FIGR that the token pools. Anthony Morrow, CEO of NuvaLab, says the Home token is a way to open up quality U.S. real estate to investors outside the country, with the yield paid in USDC.

Running on the Providence blockchain, the Home token is designed to keep any PII off-chain in compliance with privacy rules. It is an innovation that shows where traditional finance and blockchain are converging and what else can be done with a stablecoin like USDC.

Why Samsung’s Stablecoin Move Matters

On a larger scale, the fact that Samsung has built stablecoins into its Wallet app is indicative of a change in how crypto is being adopted. Tens of millions can now do fee-free USDC transfers in short order, making the prospect of moving money abroad as straightforward as sending a text message. Such things are only possible because of the reliability of a blockchain like Solana, and they go some way to making cryptocurrencies something trustworthy and practical for the everyday user. One sees the line between the two worlds of finance and crypto becoming ever more indistinct as others follow suit, to the advantage of the whole ecosystem.
